LSU, French Education Project to Offer Video Conferences on Teaching History of World War II

LSU, in partnership with the Consulate General of France, the National WWII Museum in New Orleans and the Memorial de Caen in France, offered a series of teaching conferences on World War II for teachers of French, social studies or history beginning on Saturday, Jan. 12, from 1-4 p.m.

The conferences were conducted via video link from the National World War II Museum in New Orleans. The Consulate General of France, along with the financial support of the city of Clermont-Ferrand, offered the series to anyone interested in teaching the history of the war.

In addition to the inaugural event, these organizations broadcasted a total of three conferences by video to six different universities in Louisiana and to the Memorial de Caen in France. These conferences, made possible thanks to the LSU French Education Project, which took place at the World War II Museum, presented the different points of view of the French and the Americans on the war. Teachers of French, social studies or anyone interested in teaching the history of the war are able to use this information as a tool for additional analysis and assessment.

The opening event was held at the WWII Museum:“Teaching about WWII,” on Saturday, Jan. 12.

The series of conferences were held in Room 202 of Coates Hall on the LSU campus from 4-6 p.m. on the following dates:“Minorities in WWII," on Thursday, Feb.14, “D-Day: A Turning Point in the War in Europe," on Thursday, March 13 and "V is for Victory: The Home Front in WWII” on Thursday, April 17.
