Poet Laureate Visits University Laboratory School

BATON ROUGE, LA—On Wednesday, April 2, 2008, Poet Laureate of Louisiana Darrell Bourque spoke to University Laboratory School English teachers and conducted a workshop for students who placed in the state writing contest LA WRITES!, sponsored by the Louisiana Writing Project.

Bourque visited with English teachers (grade 6-12) in the downstairs conference room from 12:45-1:20 p.m. He then met students in Room H-248, conducting a poetry workshop involving at least one haiku that the students have written.

University Laboratory School English Instructor Connie McDonald wrote the grant for Bourque’s visit that was funded through the University Laboratory School Foundation.

Students involved in the event are: (Seniors) Katie Humphreys, Brighton Keller, Eric Landry, Kathryn West; (Juniors) Andrew Meng, Elizabeth Shaw, Hunter Odom, Ramya Koritala, Lyn Denby, Clay Adameck, Mary Hannah Prevot, Alex Pietrogallo, Jason Binder; (Sixth/Seventh Graders) Samantha Prather, Anna Pardue, Alex Hadskey, Nathan Wood.
