Holmes Students Invite Cartoonist
to Perform at Local Middle School

BATON ROUGE, LA—Glasgow Middle School students received a special treat on Friday, April 11, 2008, at 9:00 a.m. Native Louisianan illustrator Keith "Cartoon Man" Douglas entertained sixth-grade students by drawing pictures to accompany Todd Michael St. Pierre's poetry read by College of Education graduate student Amanda Villarrubia.

College of Education graduate students Amanda Villarrubia and Lauren Kocke organized the event involving more than 150 middle school students. To make the event even more memorable College of Education Associate Professor/Professional Practice Thomasine Mencer worked with her colleagues in the Department of Educational Theory, Policy, and Practice to provide a $17 copy of St. Pierre's book to 17 sixth-grade Glasgow students.

The illustrator conducted three separate presentations involving about 60 students per session from 8:00 - 11:30 a.m. in the school's library.
