Endowed & Emeritus Professors Recognized

Four professors were nominated for the title of emeritus during the fall 2007 semester. This honorary title is reserved for faculty members who retire at the rank of professor after at least ten years of service to the university and are recommended by the campus faculty.

Charles Teddlie, the Jo Ellen Levy Yates Endowed Professor in the College of Education, retired from his faculty position in the Department of Educational Theory, Policy, and Practice after having served the university for 19 years. Teddlie’s textbook on mixed methods research continues to be one of the best-selling books in the field.

Terry Geske, the J. Franklin Bayhi Endowed Professor, retired from his faculty position in the Department of Educational Theory, Policy, and Practice after having served the university for 23 years and serving as department chair on two separate occasions.

Richard Magill, the Helen “Bessie” Silverberg Pliner Endowed Professor in Kinesiology, retired after having served the university for 29 years. Magill is continuing work with graduate students.

William E. Doll, Jr., the Vira Franklin and James R. Eagles Endowed Professor, retired from his faculty position in the Department of Educational Theory, Policy, and Practice after having served the university for 19 years. Doll continues to bring national and international attention to the Holmes Elementary program and the Curriculum Theory Project.

The LSU College of Education Administrative Council recommended four faculty to the LSU Board of Supervisors for consideration for an endowed professorship. Each has demonstrated outstanding leadership, extensive outreach and engagement in scholarly activity, and excellence in teaching, making them outstanding recipients of this honor and outstanding representatives of the College of Education.

Because of her history of excellence in research, the quality and scope of her publications, and her national and international recognition, Associate Professor Nina Asher (Educational Theory, Policy, and Practice) was recommended for the J. Franklin Bayhi Endowed Professorship.

In recognition of the collaborative work and contributions to research on healthy living, particularly with the Peripheral Neuropathy Project, Associate Professor Li Li (Kinesiology) was nominated for the Jo Ellen Levy Yates Professorship in the College of Education.

In acknowledgement of the leadership she is providing in the PK-3 and elementary program areas as well as her commitment to the revitalization of the New Orleans area schools, Associate Professor Renee Casbergue (Educational Theory, Policy, and Practice) was nominated for the Vira Franklin and James R. Eagles Endowed Professorship.

As a result of her work at the Lab School as disciplinary department chair and her contributions to the school’s curriculum alignment committee, Carol Young was nominated for the Elena and Albert LeBlanc Professorship in the Laboratory School.
