American Academy of Kinesiology and Physical Education Elects Kinesiology Faculty as Active Fellow
College of Education faculty member Melinda Solmon, Roy Paul Daniels Professor in Kinesiology, was elected as an Active Fellow in the American Academy of Kinesiology and Physical Education. The Academy is an honorary organization composed of individuals who have made significant contributions to the study of and/or application of the art and science of human movement and physical activity. Founded in 1930, the Academy limits the number of Active Fellows to 125 and election is by vote of the Academy membership. Dedicated to educational concerns and scientific advancements in the field, the Academy has promoted and enhanced the direction of kinesiology issues, nationally and internally. Solmon joins Richard Magill and Amelia Lee as the only other active members from Louisiana. A national and international scholar in physical education pedagogy, Solmon’s research employs socio-cognitive theories to examine motivational beliefs and behaviors in physical activity settings. She has published over 35 data-based papers in top journals in physical education, kinesiology, and education psychology. In addition, she has supplemented her empirical papers with theoretical and research methods papers that have influenced the work of other scholars. She currently serves as the co-editor of the leading journal in physical education, the Journal of Teaching in Physical Education.
