Lab School Dedicates Football Field to Jeff Boss
The LSU Laboratory School commemoratively dedicated its football field to the memory of Jeff Boss on September 8, 2006, at halftime of the University High School season opener against Vidalia. LSU Chancellor Sean O’Keefe dedicated the field along with LSU Athletic Director Skip Bertman and former LSU Head Football Coach Jerry Stovall, who hired Boss. Boss came to LSU in 1980, serving as LSU football team equipment manager for 24 years, and not missing a game until August 30, 2003. While diagnosed with a brain tumor in January 2003, he continued as equipment manager until June 2003. He passed away on October 27, 2003. The 2003 LSU football season was dedicated to Boss by the team, and resulted in SEC and national championships. “Everyone held Jeff Boss in such high regard. He left the university a legacy of excellence, dedication and sincere concern for others,” said University High School Principal Albert Camburn. Boss is survived by his wife, the former Karen Ibert of Franklin, Louisiana, and daughter B.J., a University High School junior. |
