Professor Selected as Superintendent of Schools
The College of Education bid farewell to educational leadership professor Amy B. Westbrook. In August 2006, Westbrook was hired as the new Superintendent of Schools for St. Helena Parish. “Of course, we are sad to see her go. But, we know that she will make a tremendous difference in the St. Helena schools,” said Earl Cheek, chair of the Department of Educational Theory, Policy, and Practice in the LSU College of Education. In a grant from the U.S. Department of Education, Westbrook worked extensively with school systems in East Feliciana and surrounding parishes to improve and mentor future school leaders. It was a natural transition to move from training leaders to leading. “The past five years at LSU have been a wonderful professional growth opportunity for me,” said Westbrook. “I look forward to a continued collaborative relationship between the College and the St. Helena school system.” “Although we will miss her as a faculty member, we are looking forward to continuing our close relationship with Dr. Westbrook as she assumes her leadership role in the St. Helena schools,” said M. Jayne Fleener, dean of the LSU College of Education. College of Education alumni and Westbrook’s former students serve in various school leadership and educational administration positions throughout the state. |
