Kinesiology Chair Selected for Presidential Science CouncilAmelia Lee, Mary E. Baxter Lipscomb Professor and Chair of the College of Education Department of Kinesiology, was selected to serve on the 2006 Science Board of the President’s Council on Physical Fitness and Sports (PCPFS). The Science Board evaluates, reviews and makes science-based recommendation to the President’s Council through the secretary of Health and Human Services about ways to improve the health and well-being of Americans. The President’s Council is an advisory group of citizens who make recommendations to President George W. Bush about physical activity, fitness and sports in America. |
The year 2006 marks the Council’s 50th anniversary—placing LSU among current and former members including U.S. Senate Majority Leader (R-TN) William H. Frist, M.D., California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger, and famed Apollo 13 astronaut Captain James A. Lovell to name a few. |
