It is a good thing that media wish to speak with you. We want to be viewed as an expert source and one that is willing to shed light and context on important issues facing education.
What to do if you are contacted by the media?
- If you are contacted by the media, please ask the reporter if they have spoken with LSU Office of Public Affairs.
If not, please refer them to Billy Gomilla, staff editor assigned to the College of Education.
Telephone: (225) 578-3867.
- In the event that Billy is unavailable, there will be information on his voicemail for an additional contact.
- The staff members of the LSU Office of Public Affairs are knowledgeable and highly qualified spokespersons for LSU. They will speak with the media and provide you with more details on the story and assist in coordinating your interview.
Remember that if you are speaking to a reporter, YOU ARE BEING INTERVIEWED.
- There is no such thing as “Off the Record.”If you are caught off-guard by a reporter, remember that you may always ask them to schedule an appointment with you, so you may collect your thoughts and prepare for the interview more fully.
What to do if you are interested in contacting the media?
- If you feel that your research project or outreach program or the activities of your students and colleagues deserves attention, please contact Angela Owings Broussard at (225) 572-1235 or abrous2@lsu.edu
- Hyderkhan collaborates with the LSU Office of Public Affairs and various other organizations and groups on campus to “get the word out.” Depending on your idea and the timing of the project, Hyderkhan can assist in organizing your story, making it more visually appealing, and tailoring it to current themes in the media. In addition to external sources, Hyderkhan can promote your work within the University and the College. There are a number of mediums through which LSU has the ability to market your research and your outreach efforts, letting someone else know about it is the first step.
- View our media tip sheets, faculty areas of expertise, or highlights section to see examples of various ways you can help get the word out about your research, service, or teaching.
