May 5, 2009 -- The LSU College of Education hosted a Celebration of Excellence Friday, on May 1, 2009, at the Crowne Plaza in Baton Rouge. The event served as the culmination of the College’s 100 year anniversary, where five prominent alumni and friends were honored with Centennial Excellence Awards. Over 300 guests were in attendance.
Award recipients included Commissioner of Higher Education Sally Clausen, Superintendent of Zachary Community School System Warren Drake, and Peak Performance Physical Therapy Clinics Co-owner Fabian Roussel. Posthumous awards were presented to the families of Dean Emeritus E. B. “Ted” Robert and West Feliciana Parish Superintendent of Schools Lloyd L. Lindsey.
Chancellor Mike Martin presented opening remarks on behalf of the university and Dean M. Jayne Fleener provided information on some of the college’s key programs and community engagements. Fleener also recognized a number of dignitaries in attendance. Members of the LSU community introduced each honoree who responded with acceptance speeches expressing their gratitude for an LSU College of Education degree and their support for their university. The program also included the inaugural showing of the college’s second Centennial Celebration of Excellence video, which highlighted six successful alumni who give back to the community in diverse fields from classroom education to neurological medicine.
Dean M. Jayne Fleener called the event a great success, saying, “The Celebration of Excellence was the perfect end to our Centennial Year celebrations. It was an opportunity for members of the college and our community partners to commemorate the strides our alumni and faculty have made throughout the past 100 years and to congratulate our honorees and their families for their lasting and impressive accomplishments.”
This event was made possible by the generous support of Harman and Renae Chandler and Piccadilly Restaurants.
