Celebrating the Week of the Young ChildOn April 22, 2007, the Association for the Education of Young Children at LSU (AEYC @LSU) is holding a Week of the Young Child Kick-Off Party. Located on the LSU Parade Grounds from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m., the event will include an obstacle course, kiddie pools where children can dig for treasure, sidewalk chalk, jump rope, and a relay race. In addition, there will be opportunities for parents and educators to learn to make various outdoor materials for children and different “rainy day” activities. Week of the Young Child (April 22-28, 2007), sponsored by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC), is an opportunity for early childhood programs across the country, including child care and Head Start programs, preschools and elementary schools, to hold activities to bring awareness to the needs of young children. “Early learning experiences are crucial to the growth and development of young children,” said Afton Tucker, College of Education student and vice president of AEYC @LSU. “Week of the Young Child provides opportunities for all of us to recognize the importance of the early years, and to work together to build better futures for all children.” AEYC @LSU has 50 College of Education early childhood education majors working together to build public support for high-quality early childhood education programs. AEYC @LSU is an affiliate of NAEYC, the largest organization of early childhood educators and others dedicated to improving the quality of early education programs for children birth through age eight. Founded in 1926, NAEYC has nearly 100,000 members and a national network of over 300 local, state, and regional affiliates.
