College of Education Raises More Than $12K for United Way
Louisiana State University kicked off its United Way campaign
on October 15, 2008. With an all-time high of $260,000
pledged in 2007, LSU Chancellor Michael V. Martin reported
that LSU ranked first in state government and seventh in
all industries on the 2007 Greater Baton Rouge Area list
of top campaign performers.
Chancellor Martin said, “The
tremendous support shown by LSU faculty,
staff and students is remarkable. Let’s
show our community that we are not
only champions on the field and in
the classroom but also
in our community as
we become engaged
in improving the lives
of others.”
The LSU College
of Education embraced this
challenge, raising more than
$12,000 in its 2008 campaign.
Dean M. Jayne Fleener said, “The College of Education is
in solidarity with our community
partners to advance the quality of health,
education, and wellness. This show of
support to the Capital Area United Way
exemplifies that the faculty and staff
are not only professionally driven but
personally committed to this goal as well.
I am proud to witness their dedication to
join forces with United Way and the larger
LSU family in identifying and responding to
community needs and modeling for our
students the importance of engagement
to address these issues.”
Dean Fleener added, “I am fortunate to
witness on a daily basis the difference
the College of Education is making
in our local, regional, and national
communities. This accomplishment
is simply another example of the
leadership and dedication of our
faculty and staff.”
