Dissertation Defense Shows It’s a Small World

On Wednesday, December 17, 2008 from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., Sue Leach defended her dissertation. Leach was the last doctoral student of retired College of Education Helen "Bessie" Silverberg Pliner Professor Dick Magill. In an interesting coincidence, Magill’s first doctoral student, from Texas A&M University in 1976, T. Gilmour Reeve was on Leach’s committee. Reeve is the new College of Education Department of Kinesiology chair and was also awarded the Helen "Bessie" Silverberg Pliner Professorship upon his arrival from Texas Tech University in July 2008. The dissertation defense took place in room 108 of the Huey P. Long Fieldhouse.
