Kinesiology Professor Roy Hill (pictured above) and student Rene Barber traveled to Washington, D.C., for the anniversary of September 11th to participate in a training camp as part of GO-FIRST, the Global Online First Responder Student Training Foundation. The goal of the camp is to train students and other citizens so they can be prepared to provide key services during a crisis. The organization’s aim is to bring together students and first responder mentors from multiple disciplines and duty stations in special camps that combine hands-on training in safety, health, and security through character, career, and service- learning. Hill and Barber were taught rescue techniques like CPR and were put in stressful situations to learn the correct responses. “They want to provide teachers and exercise professionals the same training as police, firefighters, coast guards, and other first responders,” said Hill. |
