Renee Michelet Casbergue received her PhD in language and literacy in 1984 from the University of New Orleans. In 1980 she obtained her M.Ed. in curriculum and instruction and in 1976 she graduated with a B.A. in elementary education.

Casbergue was a professor at the University of New Orleans in the Department of Curriculum and Instruction from 1992 to 2005 and served as department chair from 2000 to 2005. Prior to that she was an assistant professor in the Department of Education and she was also the coordinator of early childhood education at Tulane University. Previously she was the director of student teaching at Tulane.

Casbergue is currently an associate professor with the College of Education with the Department of Educational Theory, Policy, and Practice. She is a member of the National Reading Conference, the American Educational Research Association, the Association for Childhood Education International, the International Reading Association, and other professional organizations.
