Gerlinde Grandstaff-Beckers began working with the LSU College of Education as coordinator for the Validated Practices Initiative grant with Assistant Professor Paul Mooney. Her work with this grant built upon 20 years of experience working with adults and children with all levels of disabilities.

Gerlinde Grandstaff-Beckers taught children with disabilities in both the public and private sectors. She worked in three schools in Livingston Parish, she was a care giver and trainer for foster children and adults with low-incident disabilities in Louisiana and Florida and she was an instructor at Southeastern Louisiana University in the Department of Teaching & Learning.

Set to receive her PhD in December 2006, Grandstaff-Beckers also received an educational specialist degree and certification as an educational diagnostician from the LSU College of Education in August 2006. She received the American Association of University Women scholarship Award in 2006. Grandstaff-Beckers attended Southeastern Louisiana University, graduating magna cum laude with a bachelor’s in special education also earning a master’s in education with an additional 30 hours of coursework in administration and supervision of instruction at Southeastern Louisiana University.

Gerlinde Grandstaff-Beckers joins the College as an instructor, teaching courses related to instructional practices for students with disabilities, characteristics for individuals with exceptionalities, and education, school and society. She is part of the Division of Integrated Studies in the Department of Educational Theory, Policy, and Practice and will focus her research and service activities on the reading skills of low achieving students and students with disabilities as well as teacher preparation.
