Make a Gift to the College of Education: A Timeless Investment

Essential to the advancement of the College of Education, the college’s development and alumni relations efforts have resulted increases across the board by increasing outreach efforts to alumni through development activities and opportunities to volunteer with special projects. These activities create an environment that will assist College of Education faculty, staff, and students in achieving flagship status. In order to achieve the goals of the Flagship Agenda, LSU needs the financial tools to set these plans into motion. Particularly important is the need for these funds after the twin disasters of Hurricanes Katrina and Rita in 2005, as the storms have drastically impacted the budgetary resources of the State of Louisiana. The Forever LSU Campaign is a direct response to this need, as LSU remains committed to its goal of moving upward in the academic world, despite the adversities with which we’ve been dealt as a community.

The Forever LSU Campaign will turn the tide in LSU’s favor, as we expect to raise support for LSU on an unprecedented level between now and 2010. In June 2006, the Campaign announced a monetary goal of $750 million, encouraging all friends and alumni of LSU to reconnect with their Tiger Spirit and to help LSU reach a new level of achievement as a university community.

Nothing defines a university more clearly than the quality of its faculty, and there is no asset more critical than the excellence of its students. Private, supplementary support for faculty, especially in the form of endowments for chairs and professorships, is vital to the University. Endowments help attract, encourage, and retain outstanding faculty and students by providing a tangible reward for merit. Endowments also leave a legacy for years to come because the principal balance is never spent. Endowed gifts permanently fund professorships and scholarships. Non-endowed gifts include those from corporations, corporate matches, individuals, royalties, and various other sources. These gifts support non-endowed scholarships and special projects such as the Department of Kinesiology’s peripheral neuropathy studies and service-oriented projects like Louisiana State Youth Opportunities Unlimited to name a few.

The Education Excellence Fund supports many Forever LSU capital campaign initiatives such as visiting scholars, classroom renovations, teaching, research, laboratory facilities, and upgrades in technology. The Education Excellence Fund provides discretionary support for faculty and student programs, cutting-edge innovations, and partnerships aimed at improving education, health, and wellness throughout Louisiana and nationally. In addition to these year-long development activities, the College of Education also participates each spring in TigerTalk, the first-ever student telefund created by the LSU Foundation. TigerTalk provides meaningful contacts and two-way communication by employing more than 40 LSU students, placing approximately 2,800 calls per night, and averaging about 116 donations per day.

There are several ways to invest in the future. You can make a payment online through the secured server at the LSU Foundation or you can mail a check to the College of Education directly.
