About the College of Education

Established as a college in 1908, the College of Education houses the Department of Educational Theory, Policy, and Practice; the Department of Kinesiology; and the K-12 University Laboratory School. The College of Education has an average of more than 1,100 undergraduate and 400 graduate students pursuing a variety of degrees. In addition, the College of Education also enrolls more than 1,300 students attending the Lab School, which was founded in 1915.

An outstanding faculty models for students a commitment to research, teaching, and service as key aspects of lifelong learning and engagement. From the content-rich, experientially-based teacher preparation programs, to innovative programs for the preparation of administrators and other community leaders, to cutting edge research on aging, health, and nutrition to applied statistical and mixed-methods research, to innovations in counseling and technological applications, to curriculum studies inquiry—the college has many strengths on which to build. Similarly, the International Baccalaureate Programme at the Lab School has received wide acclaim and visibility as a model program for encouraging sustained academic excellence in preparation for college matriculation.
