What does the internship (KIN 4538) entail?

During your last semester, you will gain valuable on-the-job experience at an approved health/fitness promotion facility that best suits your career/professional interests. You will volunteer a minimum of 150 hours at the facility, document your experiences, create a professional portfolio, and receive 6 credit hours (pass/fail) toward your degree. This can be an excellent opportunity to enhance your leadership skills, further develop your career goals, and begin making professional contacts.

Professional Organizations

Students interested in Fitness Studies should consider membership in American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM). This national organization promotes and integrates scientific research, education, and practical applications of sports medicine and exercise science to maintain and enhance physical performance, fitness, health and quality of life.

All student members receive Sports Medicine Bulletin (the quarterly newsletter), Medicine and Science in Sports and Exercise (the monthly scientific journal), Exercise and Sport Science Reviews (the annual hardback review series), and monthly career information. Discounted fees for the annual meetings, certification exams, professional liability insurance and other publications are also offered to members.
