Admission Requirements

Education Curriculum | Kinesiology Curriculum

Education Curriculum

Each applicant for entry into a Teacher Education program must present satisfactory scores on the Praxis I PPST Exam (Reading, Writing, and Mathematics). If the NTE was taken prior to the inception of Praxis on September 1, 1999, contact the College of Education, Office Student Services at 225-578-2331 for information on qualifying scores.

For College of Education students, admission to 3000 level professional education courses will be restricted to those who have been formally admitted to a Teacher Education program.

Therefore, applicants for the College of Education will be admitted at two levels:

  1. Basic Education Program: Those students who have earned at least 24 semester hours with at least a 2.2 GPA will be eligible to enter the Basic Education Program. Holmes Elementary Education Majors will be eligible to enter the Basic Education Program with a 2.5 GPA.

  2. Teacher Education Program: Those students who have earned a 2.5 GPA and passed the NTE General Knowledge (644) and Communication Skills (645) prior to September 1, 1999 will be eligible to enter the Teacher Education Program. Beginning September 1, 1999, those students who have earned a 2.5 GPA and passed the Praxis PPST-Reading (172), PPST-Writing (171) and PPST-Math (170), will be eligible to enter the Teacher Education Program. Holmes Elementary Education Majors are required to have a 2.75 to enter into the Teacher Education Program.

Students admitted to the College of Education Basic Education Program will be required to qualify for entry into the Teacher Education program by the time they have earned 75 semester hours. Any student who fails to do so will be placed on probation in the College of Education.

Kinesiology Curriculum

The College of Education admission requirements for Kinesiology majors are determined by the LSU General Catalog in effect when the student entered college. Any student who entered college prior to the Fall of 2002 should consult the General Catalog in effect at the time of entry into college for College of Education admission requirements. For questions regarding these policies, students may contact the Office of Student Services.

Currently, students who entered LSU in the Fall of 2002 or later, must comply with the following admission requirements:

  • All concentrations: 24 hrs with a 2.5 GPA

  • All concentrations: Must pass the following courses with a "C" or better: ENGL 1001, 1002/2000; MATH 1021, 1022; BIOL 1201, 1202, 1208 and 1209
