Department of Kinesiology
Degree: M.S. in Kinesiology
Specialization/Major/Concentration: Sport Management (non-thesis)

The Sport Management specialization is an M.S. degree (non-thesis) offered through a unique curriculum which focuses on interdepartmental collaboration. Specifically, graduate students pursuing this M.S. degree are encouraged to schedule courses in other departments on campus in addition to the established core curriculum, which focuses on organizational behavior and theory, finance, social issues, and law. Unique among graduate-level sport management curricula, LSU’s program utilizes other programs in the Department of Kinesiology and College of Education, fosters interaction within the highly respected E.J. Ourso College of Business, and supports engagement with the Manship School of Communication among other well-renown academic opportunities to help students acquire the information and skills they need to be successful in their desired career path. Another prominent feature of the program is a semester-long internship wherein the students work extensively in a selected area of sport management. Sites for internships have included the National Senior Games, Baton Rouge Area Sports Foundation, the Texas Rangers (Major League Baseball), the Washington Wizards (National Basketball Association), the offices of the Southeastern Conference, and various offices within LSU athletics.
Overall, the sport management program prepares students for careers regarding the business and managerial aspects of recreation and sport. Graduates of the program assume positions such as event and facility managers of sport and entertainment venues, recreation centers, and fitness clubs, ticket operations managers at the various intercollegiate and professional levels, marketing and promotions directors, and sport information directors. Other positions our graduates pursue include athletic directorships at the interscholastic and intercollegiate levels and in the general management operations of professional sport, community relations, and event coordinators.
