Admissions: PhD | M.A.

PhD in Higher Education Admissions Process

  1. Fill out the Graduate School Application Form on the Graduate School web site at http://gradlsu.gs.lsu.edu/ You may apply on-line or return the form to:

    As you do this, we urge you to take the statement of purpose very seriously. We will consider this statement as a key piece of your application. On the Graduate School Application, please designate your interest in our Department and one of our graduate programs. This section will be forwarded to ETPP.
  2. Have your GRE scores (and TOEFL scores if a International Student) as well as undergraduate and graduate university transcripts sent to the LSU Graduate School. After the Graduate School has received and processed these materials, your file will be forwarded to the ETPP Department.
  3. Have three letters of recommendation sent to:

  4. To complete your file, we ask that you submit a 3-5 page essay discussing what you believe to be a key issue in the field of Higher Education today.

Important Dates

For priority consideration, applicants must have the entire process noted above completed before March 1 for Fall admission and October 1 for Spring admission. Keep in mind that the Graduate School will need at least a week after all application materials have been received to process the application file. We must have all materials in ETPP by the dates above for priority consideration.

We expect to request interviews of eligible candidates shortly after the above deadlines, and plan to notify applicants of their status by April 1 in the Spring and by November 1 in the Fall.

M.A. in Education – Higher Education & Student Affairs Admissions Process

  1. Application for admission to the Graduate School must be submitted and accepted. Applications must be completed online (http://gradlsu.gs.lsu.edu) or paper versions may be obtained by contacting the LSU Graduate School:

  2. All application materials must be received by ETPP before the applicant will be considered for admission. The Program requires 1) all academic transcripts, 2) GRE scores, 3) three letters of recommendation from individuals who can speak to your ability to succeed in a graduate program in student affairs, 4) a 3-5 page scholarly essay about how you would make a contribution to the higher education environment in your anticipated career, 5) a résumé, and 6) your choice to enroll in either the 4-semester cohort or the 6-semester cohort (see below for more information). GRE scores and transcripts should be sent to the Graduate School, while letters of recommendation, the personal essay, and your cohort choice should be sent to the Department:

  3. For priority consideration, applicants must have the entire process referenced above completed before March 1 for Fall admission. Approximately 15 individuals per cohort will be admitted.
