In preparation for the celebration of the Bicentennial of Louisiana Statehood, the LSU French Education project of the College of Education has designed an immersion program to explore the rich and complex history of Louisiana as it shifts from territory to state. The project will include intensive workshops over two and a half days.

WHO SHOULD ATTEND?

Teachers of French, Social Studies, and Spanish, K-12.

WHERE AND WHEN:

Louisiana State University, Baton Rouge, LA, February 3-5, 2012

GOALS:

  • Enrich French, Social Studies, and Spanish teachers' content knowledge
  • Provide documents, references and classroom-ready materials to use in 2012 and subsequent years
  • Plan historically oriented and interdisciplinary classroom-ready activities
  • Promote interdepartmental school events
  • Plan a sample interdisciplinary school-wide Louisiana Statehood Day

WHAT WILL THE WORKSHOPS INCLUDE?

Focus will be on exploring Louisiana history (Friday), building a collection of discipline-specific activities (Saturday), and preparing the community for a Louisiana Statehood Day (Sunday). After receipt of your registration fee, you will receive an electronic version via email of the pre-workshop packet of materials and instructions. At registration Day One, you will receive a binder of documents to which you will add throughout the program. Following the workshops, you will receive an activity kit (classroom-ready activities produced by teachers during the program, CDs, etc.) to help you implement the activities of the workshops in your school.

The fee for the two and a half days is $100, and gives access to all sessions of the program. Thanks to our sponsors, participants receive two nights' accommodations at the Cook Hotel, meals and all workshop materials.
